Responsible gambling

At Naija Score we believe betting should be a form of entertainment — never a source of income nor a way out of money problems.

Our advice

  • Only bet money you can afford to lose.
  • Set a limit on time and money, and stick to it.
  • Don't chase losses by betting more.
  • Don't bet under the influence of alcohol or emotional stress.
  • Remember that no prediction guarantees a result.

Warning signs

If betting stops being fun, keeps you up at night, or affects your relationships or finances, it's time to stop and seek help.

Need help?

Gambling Therapy (gamblingtherapy.org) is a free online service for people affected by gambling harm, with practical advice and emotional support. It is run by Gordon Moody, a charity registered in England and Wales. It is an international service, not a Nigerian one, and we have not confirmed that it has advisers based in Nigeria. Last checked 27 October 2026.

Many bookmakers also offer self-exclusion tools and deposit limits in your account settings — use them without hesitation. If you or someone near you is in danger or in crisis, contact local emergency services or someone you trust, now.

Strictly for over-18s. Naija Score does not organise bets or take money from users; it provides informational content.

The rulebook

Play within the lines

Four lines that keep betting a game. Scroll to draw the pitch.

  1. Only stake what you can lose

Bet money you can afford to lose — never rent, school fees or savings.

  2. Set a limit on time and money

Decide both before you start, and stick to them when the match gets exciting.

  3. Don’t chase losses

Betting more to win back a loss is how small losses become big ones. Stop for the day.

  4. Take a break, ask for help

If betting stops being fun, pause. Self-exclusion and deposit limits exist — use them. 18+ only.
